Take That, Banks!

The City Council gave a pretty sincere, 49-votes-to-2 thumbs-up to the proposed Upper West Side retail rezoning. The rezoning will limit storefront sizes on Broadway, Columbus, and Amsterdam above 72nd Street to 40 feet or smaller. A few loopholes to allow for the expansion of local businesses: stores can apply for waivers to open locations up to 60 feet, and existing 40+-foot spaces won't have to be made smaller if they are vacated.
