Real estate writer Michael Gross happens to live right near Central Park, and he's putting his neighbors to shame with some data on the Central Park Conservancy: of the 550,000 people who live within a 10-minute walk of the park, only 55,000 contribute to the 85 percent of the park's budget that is privately raised. "On average, only 17 percent of parkside apartments have chipped in to maintain their backyard since 2010," with buildings like Hampshire House, the San Remo, and 1040 and 1150 Fifth paying a good chunk of those contributions. Even at 15 Central Park West, where the Zeckendorfs bought the building's original residents a one-year conservancy membership, only 16 of 201 apartments actually activated them. [Crain's]
