New, 2 comments

LOWER EAST SIDE?Fourth Arts Block unveiled "The Saints of the Lower East Side" on the scaffolding bridge outside the 70 East 4th Street Cultural Center. The temporary installation by Tom Sanford is the latest public artwork for FAB's ArtUp program, which seeks to bring art into unusual and underused spaces. The new piece is an "array of large gilded paintings are intended as an homage to cultural icons who lived and worked on the Lower East Side of Manhattan." The seven portraits include Martin Wong, Joey Ramone, Miguel Piñero, Ellen Stewart, Charlie Parker, Arthur Fellig and Allen Ginsberg. [Curbedwire Inbox; official]
