Cornerspotted: Columbia Heights and Pierrepont Street

Cornerspotters were on fire this week, identifying the correct location of this week's contest in a manner of minutes. That house at the bend in the road is in Brooklyn Heights, at 222 Columbia Heights. According to Brooklyn Heights Blog, the building was destroyed around the time the city built the BQE and the promenade, but at one time it was the home of Seth Low, who was Mayor of Brooklyn from 1881-1885, before the city of Brooklyn became part of a consolidated New York. Low would go on to become president of Columbia and the Low Library is named in honor of his father. 222 Columbia Heights was rebuilt in 1980 in a handsome modern style that is respectful of its now-landmarked neighbors.
