Construction Moves Forward on Second Half of The Driggs

New, 8 comments

WILLIAMSBURG?When a tipster sent us some construction photos of an in-progress apartment building on North 10th Street between Driggs and Roebling, we could not for the life of us figure out which development it was. A visit to the site revealed the address to be 205 North 9th Street, the address of the Driggs. Considering the rendering for the Driggs shows the building taking over an entire block, we should have figured this out, but perhaps we just didn't want to believe that the slow-moving, Karl-Fischer-designed monstrosity would actually come to its full fruition.

The western half of the building finished last year and is currently being rented, but the second half still has a lot of work to be done. The in-construction section looks exactly like the already complete building, except that it stretches from North 9th to North 10th, abutting an old warehouse along Roebling Street. When we walked past, the construction gates were open on both streets and you could see straight through. It's also worth noting that in between the two sections of The Driggs sits the one-story gay nightclub Sugarland, which accounts for the gap between the buildings. Seems like there should be a development battle story there, but we can't dig anything up. Feel free to enlighten us in the comments or tipline if you know something. [Curbedwire Inbox; previously]
