Add the Bronx River to the list of polluted waterways currently undergoing cleanup efforts. Michael Kimmelman has a piece detailing the various projects currently under way on the southern end of the river, including the already completed Hunts Point Riverside Park and the in-progress Starlight Park. "Progress is painfully slow," Kimmelman writes, but goes on to say that "what's [already] happened, under the circumstances, is hardly short of miraculous." Gowanus residents could read the article aloud for inspiration every morning before they head out to clean the canal. [NYT]
