Writer E.L. Doctorow, also an NYU faculty member, weighs in on the NYU 2031 expansion plan as today's City Council vote approaches: "Even with modifications, NYU 2031 is a blueprint for the university's deterioration. Faculty would go elsewhere rather than endure 20 years of heavy construction outside their homes and classrooms. There are neighborhoods downtown that would be happy to have big new NYU buildings not wanted by the Village community. The university/corporation claims that this is not a cozy enough alternative — that it needs to build on its Village "core campus" so that students do not have to travel all over town. Yet NYU has no campus." [NYDN; previously]
