Big Reveal: A Fifth-Floor Walk-Up in the West Village

And now, the results of this week's PriceSpotter asking price guessing game.

Location: 131 Bank Street, fifth floor
Asking: $1,250,000

We posed not one but two questions to Pricespotter players regarding this week's "bring your architect and your imagination" listing in the West Village: how much is it asking, and how much would the necessary renovations cost? There were several accurate guesses, though most came with the caveat that the place is actually worth far less. One commenter offered a description of potential renovations:

"The location of the plumbing makes it impossible to separate the kitchen and the bath. But it might be possible to swap their places. If you do, you can clear out the remaining walls, and wind up with an open kitchen and dining area expanding to a corner living room with an adjoining sleeping alcove. You'll have to walk from one end to the other to take a leak in the middle of the night, but that and the five story climb would be the biggest flaws in an otherwise charming and functional sunny loft with four exposures, views, and tons of window." The cost for that work? Maybe $100,000 to $300,000.
