The Yankees recently wanted a utility outfielder, and, being the Yankees, no ordinary utility outfielder would do. So they traded for one of the greatest players of the past decade, Ichiro Suzuki, who suddenly finds himself needing to rent a New York City apartment. Let's help him out!
Here's what we know about Ichiro: He recently hired celebrity broker Adam Modlin (so he probably doesn't really need our help, but he's going to get it anyway.) He likes stretching, according to Wikipedia, so he's going to need a lot of open space. He has a dog. Based on his former Seattle home, he likes windows. He's going to want an easy commute to the Stadium and is probably going to choose Midtown or the Upper East Side, because that's just where Yankees seem to go. And he's worth around $50 million so it's going to be somewhere that's crazy expensive.
Where: One Beacon Court, Midtown East [listing]
What: 3BR, 3.5BA with 2,415 square feet
How Much: $50,000/month
The Scoop: One Beacon Court has been home to many celebrities over the years, including former Yankee Johnny Damon. This apartment comes fully furnished, which is a plus because Ichiro definitely doesn't have time for an Ikea run. He'd also probably like those windows.
Where: Sterling Plaza [listing]
What: 5BR, 2.5BA duplex with 3,200 square feet
How Much: $16,500/month
The Scoop: Call us crazy, but we just see Ichiro liking this place. The only downsides: at under $20K per month, it might be embarrassingly cheap, and the name of the building, Sterling Plaza, might remind him too much of John Sterling, the Yankees radio announcer who has come up with a truly terrible call for when Ichiro hits a home run.
Where: 1055 Park Avenue [listing]
What: 3BR, 3.5BA triplex with 2,600 square feet
How Much: $22,000/month
The Scoop: It's kind of far uptown, which cuts down on Ichiro's commute, and it's got those big windows that we're just assuming he wants with no real basis. In addition, the building has a "techno gym" which could be to his liking? Who knows.
Where: 113 East 60th Street [listing]
What: 3BR, 3BA full floor with 2,800 square feet
How Much: $20,000/month
The Scoop: This place is available immediately, full furnished, which is good (although those furnishings might be questionable.) It's also close to where Curtis Granderson just moved so they could hang out together, and maybe invite us?
Where: The Seville [listing]
What: 4BR, 5.5BA with 5,600 square feet
How Much: n/a
The Scoop: Question: What New York City apartment is fit for a Yankee, listed by Ichiro's own broker, and having a terrible time getting off the market? Answer: Jorge Posada's Upper East Side condo, which was recently pricechopped to $10.5 million. Could a short-term rental be in its future? Probably not, but it's fun to imagine.
