Just in time for tomorrow's 100-degree weather, the pop-up pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park welcomed its first swimmers this morning. And it looks like things are going quite swimmingly! No reports of outrageous lines, people look happy in the photos, no lifeguards have been attacked, no one is checking your pants for illegal underwear, and no cops have been punched in the face. Granted, it's only the first day and the pop-up swimming hole differs quite a bit from the manic McCarren Pool. For starters, it's much smaller and can only hold 60 swimmers at a time, so to accomodate more people, there are five set swim sessions, each an hour and 15 minutes long. The 3'10" deep pool was built using mostly prefab materials, and it took shape in less than four months.
The pool has a small sandy beach area with lounge chairs and umbrellas, plus a picnic area in front of the Beach Shack snack stand:
