Was any active construction site such a graffiti magnet as the hotel project at the southwestern corner of 13th Street and Fourth Avenue? Even as Gene Kaufman's modern Foster-esque insertion into the historic structure (a poorer, shorter man's Hearst Tower) was going up, graffiti taggers seemed to hit the older corniced base with impunity. The spray paint has either been scrubbed off or painted over, because the building looks freshened up. A tipster sent in the first photo above, and reported that workers were moving large glass doors inside, "maybe for 2nd floor outdoor space at setback?" Glass doors are all well and good, but we're still waiting for the bamboo garden to arrive.
