Buy a Classic Upper West Side Building?for $150 Million

New, 12 comments

Why buy a really expensive apartment in a building that maybe looks old?when you could buy an entire Manhattan apartment building that actually is old? The Upper West Side's The Chatsworth, at 344 West 72nd Street, is up for sale, according to the Journal, and the sale price could be as high as $150 million. Anyone wanna go halfsies?

The building, built in the early 1900s, was last on the market 67 years ago (it changed ownership via inheritance about 10 years ago), and it's seen a fair amount of drama in that time. The tenants sued Donald Trump over potential blocked views thanks to Riverside South, for example. These days the building is 50 percent rent-stabilized, according to the Journal. There are two rentals listed on StreetEasy, a 2BR for $4,200/month and a 3BR for $11,000/month.
