Is a potential interior landmarking too late to save the Rainbow Room? The Landmarks Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing on September 11, but the Rainbow Room has already been divided into sections, and rumors are flying among restaurateurs that the banquet room floor is now home to an accounting firm. The Cipriani family, former operators of the space, filed the landmark application several years back, amid a fight with landlord Tishman Speyer. Tishman Speyer evicted the Ciprianis in 2009 and now won't let reporters or photographers into the space. [NYT; previously]
