Crain's reports that Joseph Chetrit, the man behind the Hotel Chelsea renovation, has laid his claim to a site containing four adjacent lots on West 37th and West 38th Streets, just north of Hudson Yards, purchasing it for $26 million. The site is zoned for commercial use and limited residential use, and allows for the construction of a building between 172,813 and 373,275 square feet, which, knowing Chetrit, will probably be designed by Gene Kaufman. The area north of Hudson Yards has seen a rash of recent activity, as Rockrose Development recently bought a 19,475-square-foot commercial real estate development site on West 39th Street which allows for an additional one million square feet of commercial development and a 528-unit residential rental building, and Gary Barnett announced plans for an office tower between 33rd and 34th that he's cleverly calling One Hudson Yards.
