In 1941, folk singers Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Bess Lomax, Lee Hays and others lived at 130 West 10th Street, a brownstone for which they paid rent by holding concerts in the basement. Each concert cost 35 cents per person, but the gang eventually moved to Sixth Avenue because the $100/month rent on West 10th was too high. [ENY]
