Anti-prohibition parades, bootlegged alcohol-fueled parties, packed beaches at Coney Island?summers in New York City during the 1920s epitomized the raucous decade. Babe Ruth played for the Yankees, Mayor Jimmy Walker revamped the Central Park casino in the summer of 1926, and a race for the sky began in the summer of 1929 as the Chrysler Building neared completion and the Empire State Building broke ground.
