Sponsored street murals are a common site throughout NYC, but rarely do the artists get to pick the topic. Not so with a new artwork in Brownsville, sponsored by the organization Groundswell, which pairs public art with underserved neighborhoods. The mural's goal is to "explore male identity and the lack of role models, and to break male stereotypes," and it was painted entirely by young artists in the neighborhood. It's one of four new mural to be dedicated today. [NYT]
