EAST NEW YORK? An affordable housing development at 1149-1166 Elton Street has started constructing a 214,000 watt solar power system. The panel array will allow the 197-unit mixed use development to offset 300,000 pounds of carbon dioxide every year, the equivalent of 8 acres of mature trees. The solar system will be the largest of its kind on a residential building in New York State. The full development, called Gateway Elton Street, is a collaboration between the Hudson Companies Inc., the Related Companies, and CAMBA, and applications are currently being accepted for the apartments.
