Turn on The Red Lights, Judge Rules in Favor of XXX

New, 13 comments

A New York State Supreme Court judge ruled yesterday against zoning rules that banned XXX-based establishments from locating within 500 feet of schools, churches, residential areas, and other adult-oriented businesses, reports Reuters. The zoning regulation was the underpinning of a move to clear out red light districts, like the one that characterized Times Square in the 1970s, when adult book stores, peep shows, and strip clubs crowded the 'Crossroads of the World'. Judge Louis York cited studies that found the presence of adult-themed businesses did not lower surrounding property values or increase crime.

Although Rick's Cabaret is returning to Times Square, it seems unlikely that seedy peep shows will be able to afford to return to The Deuce, so where do you think New York's next red light district will develop?
