A 1.6 ton German is staying at the Standard through November. Made from a giant piece of aluminum and pink enamel, Big Kastenmann (aka Big Box Man) was created by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm in the hills of southern Germany. "He's got a dash of surrealist style and an irreverent sense of humor," writes the Standard Culture blog. "In short, he's totally Standard." The 18-foot tall statue was installed in the hotel's plaza two weeks ago via crane, and, if you didn't notice, he's headless so he doesn't have to look at the Standard all day, which seems to be the theme with the hotel's public artworks.
