Here's some news to spice up a slow August Tuesday: a house on Beach 146th Street in Neponsit has closed for $5.1 million, making it the most expensive single-family home ever sold in Queens. The house that shattered the borough record?the previous record-holder was a $3.7 million house in College Point?is, actually, totally ordinary from the front. But inside, it has a little more in common with our favorite wacky Queens beachfront single-family. The Beach 146th Street house has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a pool, and a basketball half-court. All that means a nice profit for the sellers, who, true, took a cut on their $6.2 million ask, but only paid $1.5 million for the property in 1998.
