Rent or Buy? Running the Numbers on Five UWS Two-Bedrooms

New, 13 comments

The StreetEasy elves have been hard at work building a tool to compare listings for sale and for rent in New York City. Which means it's now time for the latest installment in our rent vs. buy series. Up this week, two-bedrooms on the Upper West Side. The StreetEasy data makes a few assumptions: a down payment of 20 percent and a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage at yesterday's rate of 3.61 percent. The StreetEasy tool doesn't yet incorporate the tax benefits of buying (mortgage interest deductions, etc.), something many Curbed commenters asked about, but that information might be available for future installments. Onward!
