In 1935, as part of the Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project, Harlem Hospital received several of the 500 public murals commissioned for NYC, but since then, the historic artworks have deteriorated or been covered up completely. Now they are being brought front and center in the hospital's new $325 million patient building called the Mural Pavilion. There will be a special mural gallery, and three of the artworks will cover the building's 12,000-square-foot facade, stretching five stories high. [NYT]
