The plan to bring a velodrome to Brooklyn Bridge Park crashed and burned last week, but park planners have already moved on to their next project?and it includes another unconventional sport. As part of the park's expansion on Main Street, a free bouldering wall will be built beneath the Manhattan Bridge. Brooklyn Paper reports that the plans also call for relocating a dog run, expanding the lawn space, and creating an entry plaza. Currently, the site is occupied by an underused DOT paint shed and a DEP building. The shed would be torn down and the DEP structure would be converted into a mixed-use park building with public restrooms, classrooms, and a maintenance area. Overall, neighbors liked the plan, but there were a few complainers, who said their opinions were ignored and that the rock wall could block views.
