Upper East Side Mansion Back on the Market for $24.5 Million

New, 20 comments

A seven-story, 10,000-square-foot townhouse is enticing enough all by itself, but 120 East 78th Street has the added bonus of what must be the classiest stoop in the history of stoops. Shrouded by a brick archway and featuring beautiful windows and bannisters, those front steps would be a great place to hang out on a hot summer day, drinking a bottle of $10,000 scotch out a brown paper bag. But maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves. The stoop (and the rest of the house) currently belong to publishing legend Dick Snyder, who bought the townhouse in 1996, for $4,913,000. He put it back on the market in 2011 for $26 million, but failed to attract a buyer and has now re-listed it for $24.5 million, which seems like a fairly reasonable price for eight fireplaces, 630 bottles worth of wine storage, and an elevator.
