Oops, There Goes My View

New, 17 comments

John D. Rockefeller not only donated land for the Cloisters museum?he also purchased the cliffs across the Hudson River so that nothing could be built to interrupt the museum's view. His tactic has worked, keeping the Palisades view intact since the 1930s, but now the Met and the Rockefeller progeny say a new LG Electronics USA headquarters being built across the Hudson will be tall enough to mess up the view. The museum and various environmental groups are asking?via letters and lawsuits?that LG reconsider its headquarters design. Perhaps a more appropriately medieval structure might get a pass. [NYT]
