Preservation Watch

A group of about 100 beach bungalows in Far Rockaway, the Far Rockaway Beach Bungalow Historic District, has been named a state landmark. A national landmark designation is likely to follow. The owners are still allowed to tear down the bungalows if they choose to do so, because the community has no Landmarks Preservation Commission designation. The fun twist to the story: some of the funding for preservation advocacy came from the production company behind "Boardwalk Empire." [WSJ; previously]
