Architect-Created Cat Houses; Design of The Out NYC

New, 2 comments

MIDTOWN?The event of 2013 will be taking place next Thursday, January 10. Eight of New York City's "hottest architectural firms" will be houses! Not just any cat houses, but "colorful and imaginative" shelters for feral cats around the city. The event is being put on by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, and the architects have worked with feral cat colony caretakers to build houses that will keep the kitties safe and warm. HELL'S KITCHEN?Architects+Artisans takes a closer look at THE OUT NYC, an old motel that's been transformed into a glassy, modern space that Fodor's recenter named one of the top 100 hotels in the world. Architect Paul Dominguez created the horizontal building, which used to be a dilapidated 1960s motel. "Composed as an abstraction in glass, it offers the illusion of a glowing, transparent island in a sea of opaque metropolitan structures," writes A+A. "Along one curving corridor, its inhabitants appear to float on white floors, surrounded by dark green, metallic walls." Click through for more photos. [CurbedWire Inbox; Architects + Artisans]
