As it goes with renovation projects, things get ugly before they get beautified. Case in point: the Metropolitan Museum of Art plaza renovation. Construction kicked off back in October, and a tipster sent along the above photo showing the current state of the site. It's nothing more than a giant hole in the ground at the moment, but sometime next year, the plaza will have new fountains, trees, landscaping, and a measly amount of public seating. Thanks to the wealthy nimbys living along Fifth Avenue, there will be only 30 tables and 120 chairs, and food vendors are out of the question.
