Preservation Watch

New, 11 comments

A hotel will rise soon at 50 Bowery, but first, we may see a preservation fight at the spot. Demolition is currently underway, and preservationists believe that during the demolition work, crews found remains of the Atlantic Garden, "a culturally significant German beer hall and venue that opened in the 1860s." The Atlantic Garden was itself built on the site of the Bull's Head Tavern, said to have been George Washington's Revolutionary War headquarters. Paging the location scouts for Sleepy Hollow?
