Yesterday during his weekly radio appearance, Mayor Bloomberg called the lack of affordable housing in New York "a good sign" of a healthy economy. "As fast as we build, more people want to live here. Doesn't mean it isn't a problem. But there are no vacancies," he said. "And that will bring in investment and people built at all income levels different kinds of housing." Of course, as Gothamist points out, it's worth noting that 50,000 people spend the night in homeless shelters and the waiting list for affordable housing has skyrocketed to 270,000 applicants.
