Today in landlord-tenant beefs, New York City landlords are increasingly vocal about their displeasure with the Tenant Protective Unit, which Governor Andrew Cuomo set up last year to investigate the removal of apartments from rent-stabilization. The unit has been issuing subpoenas covering all aspects of building operations, a move landlords say is beyond the scope of the unit's parent agency, the Division of Housing and Community Renewal. The Tenant Protection Unit has already completed 1,100 audits, adding 20,000 apartments back onto the rent-stabilization rolls as of June. [WSJ; previously]
