Upper East Side House Returns, Renovation Done, for $23M

New, 20 comments

The ground floor, once medical offices, was still under renovation last time 48 East 81st Street came to the market for $18.75 million in 2008. Even with a visit from the chopper, no one wanted to pay up for the property. With the renovation completed, will that change? The house is back on the market with a higher price of $23 million, and the listing describes it as "newly renovated and rebuilt," though many of the individual rooms look unchanged from last time. Here's a bit of brokerbabble:

Throughout the spacious residence, each room reveals an extraordinary level of detail, from imported South American wood floors and Venetian stucco walls, to hand-run plaster moldings, leather flooring in the master suite, all-teak cinema room and gourmet chef's kitchen. Other noteworthy features include IPE garden, master bathroom with soaking tub and changing room with his-and-her closets, grand parlor, entertaining salon, dining conservatory, library, and teak roof deck. We do like the outdoor space.
