The question of how public parks are funded has been a hot topic lately, and mayoral hopeful Bill de Blasio supports a bill that would redistribute donations intended for better-off green spaces, like Central Park, to beleaguered parks in lower income neighborhoods. The bill would require any conservancy with a budget of $5 million or more to contribute 20 percent of its funds to parks in greater need. But those who oppose the bill say that the easiest way to cut down on donations would be to impose a law that sends them some place the giver never intended. [NYP; previously]
