Neon-loving designer Karim Rashid is best known for his eco-friendly products and candyland-like interiors, but he's turning his talents toward something much bigger for his latest endeavor: an 8-story apartment building in East Harlem. BuzzBuzz Home spotted the off-the-wall renderings for the building, which is being developed by HAP Investments. HAP tapped Rashid to design a "unique" "diamond signature" mixed-use project located at 1655 Madison Avenue between 110th and 111th Streets. It will have 19 units?17 one-bedrooms and two two-bedrooms, ranging from 495- to 765-square-feet?and commercial space on the ground floor. The building's website is in Hebrew (can anyone translate? If so, please hit up the tipline), so we're not sure if the units will be rental or condos, but it seems like the website might say prices start at $430,000.
In keeping with Rashid's design philosophy, the building will incorporate a slew of green features and seek LEED certification. According to the information on the floorplans, the units will also come fully furnished, so prepare for bright pink couches and bulbous chairs. Amenities include a rooftop garden, a laundry room, bike room, storage, and a virtual doorman. Plus almost every unit has some kind of outdoor space.
