Residents of Hell Square, the nine-block microhood on Lower East Side characterized by a surfeit of bars and liquor-serving restaurants, are putting their foot down (again) and trying to stop Ludlow House, a new club from the owners of Soho House, from being granted a liquor license. But the executive director of the Lower East Side Business Improvement District is saying that the new club would be a place where "people could meet with clients, use a laptop, have lunch meetings." You know, just classic business meetings with laptops and live DJs. [NYT; photo by Shawn Hoke; previously]
