Developers are buying up Manhattan gas stations for residential and commercial projects, and the New York Times is on it. There are about 117 stations in the borough, down from 207 in 2004. The conversion culprits? In Soho, there's the BP station-to-glassy office/retail situation at 300 Lafayette Street, while Michael Shvo has taken a West Chelsea Getty station at 239 Tenth Avenue and made it an art space (right) before it goes condo. In Tribeca, there's 11 North Moore and 290 West Street, while a Mobil station for sale at 718 Eleventh Avenue is asking $9.5 million. A 29,000-square-foot apartment building could get built there.
