Read Property Group's plan to put a complex of 10 eight-story buildings with a total of 977 rental apartments and ground floor retail space at the site of the former Rheingold Brewery in Bushwick has been approved unanimously by the City Planning Commission, despite fervent opposition from Bushwick's Community Board 4. The Community Board wanted, among other things, more affordable housing than what is currently set aside (24 percent, or 242 units), an Environmental Impact Study, and more parking. The City Council is next to vote on the development and they are expected to give their approval as well. The developers hope to complete the project in 2016.
