Ellis Island will reopen on Monday, almost a year after it was shut down after Hurricane Sandy. The immigration museum there suffered ruined electrical and air-conditioning systems, plus many historical artifacts were waterlogged and removed. Though not all the damage has been dealt with, visitors will be able to enter the museum's main floor and hall where doctors inspected entrants for diseases. Full operation won't start till the spring, and the whole restoration to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty will cost the Park Service about $77 million total.
