In its 24-year history as a Semi-Decent Midtown Office Building, Worldwide Plaza has had four high-profile owners (Zeckendorf, Macklowe, Zell, and Blackstone), and now two other contenders are currently duking it out for ownership. Active real estate buyers Nicholas Schorsch and Scott Rechler both want to get their mitts on the tower, each arranging deals for a 49 percent stake that are currently mired in legal controversy. Bold-faced names apparently think the green-roofed goliath is an investment worth fighting for, but history buffs should also take note: 825 Eighth Avenue was also the site of the third Madison Square Garden.
