New, 18 comments

Preservationists lost the battle to save Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in the East Village, and now that developer Douglas Steiner has wiped the church, plus its rectory and school, off the map, more details about his plans for the site are known. EV Grieve spotted newly filed permits with the Department of Buildings that call for a 7-story, 158-unit 164,720-square-foot structure with frontage on Avenue A, East 11th Street, and East 12th Street. The local community board also posted zoning information about the project, which shows that it will have 22 rental units?4 studios, 14 one-bedrooms, and 4 two-bedrooms?affordable to low-income families and the remaining units will be market rate.
