Pay $48,000/Month for This House of Mirrors, 24-Carat Gold

New, 4 comments

Right this second, some renters are probably hunting for four-bedroom apartments ont the Upper East Side. How many, though, are hunting for triplexes with a mirrored living room with original (from when, exactly?) hand-painted murals and 24-carat gold paneling, a formal dining room with a wood-burning fireplace, a private patio with a fountain, and not one, but two washer/dryers? Oh, and for $48,000 per month? Well, that's what you'll get at 10 East 62nd Street, part of a landmarked UES mansion that is on the rental market. There aren't pictures of the bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, or patio in the latest listing, elements of a home that some might consider essential. (There are, however, a few extra pics of poorer quality in an older listing for $45K/month.) But the mirrored funhouse of a ballroom, one of two total living rooms? That gets three shots of its own.

Here's an excerpt of the fawning brokerbabble, describing what the photos don't reveal:

The dramatic brass and wrought-iron staircase will lead you to the expansive master bedroom with an en-suite bath that boasts elegant marble floors, a soaking tub, spacious stall-steam shower and large windows, a wood burning fireplace, soaring high ceilings, a walk-in cedar closet and an adjacent powder room. ... The cozy private patio has a working water fountain, brick flooring and a storage shed for any outdoor furniture. This stately residence comes complete with a spacious elevator for your convenience. Forty-nine days on the market and no takers. Hard to imagine why.
