Now that the transformation of the southern part of Governors Island is well underway, the Trust is turning its attention to the park's historic district, where 40 landmarked buildings await a new future. Governors Island released an RFP in December asking private developers to envision pretty much anything besides residential?hotels, retails, arts groups, educational institutions?and they are currently sorting through 15 proposals. Trust President Leslie Koch revealed a few possible designs, published by DNAinfo, at a community board meeting this week. They show an outdoor pool in the middle of a courtyard, shops near the Harbor School, and a hotel in Nolan Park. However preliminary, the images give a glimpse of what to expect in the more than 1 million square feet of historic buildings once a developer is chosen. Do we like it?
