Broing Out With De Blasio

New, 31 comments

Yesterday, Bill de Blasio surprised many—including Real Estate Board of New York president Steve Spinola—when he described himself as a "fiscal conservative." Addressing the group of business bigwigs at a breakfast hosted by the Association for a Better New York, the Democratic mayoral hopeful took the dais to a standing ovation, saying that he's "a progressive activist fiscal conservative, but still a fiscal conservative," which is like saying you're "a bloodthirsty pro-war pacifist, but still a pacifist." Nevertheless, Spinola's fears of a return to the Bad Old Days seem more or less assuaged. We, on the other hand, don't know what to believe. [Capital New York]
