West Village Loft Designed By NYC Architect Listed For $4.7M

New, 10 comments

Local architecture firm HWKN is best known around these parts for their mindboggling thought experiments, crazy-looking building proposals, and a bright blue, sea urchin-like structure named Wendy. So it was a bit of a surprise to see the firm's name attached to this sleek, modern loft?with a very cool marble fireplace?at 534 Hudson Street. As it turns out, the 1,990-square-foot home, which was just listed for $4.7 million, belongs to the sister (and her husband) of HWKN co-founder Marc Kushner. Kushner worked with interior designer Christopher Stevens to renovate the loft, opening up the floorplan and adding warmth with color and natural materials.

Interior Design magazine featured the makeover, describing the new layout?a large kitchen and living/dining area, three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a powder room?as "a series of squares and rectangles that generate 'pouches' for storing household mess." As such, the place has "copious amounts" of storage including hidden closets, built-in shelving, and a custom walk-in pantry. There's also a private terrace, and the kitchen has a wine refrigerator, two dishwashers, two Wolf ovens, and a Viking range.
