City Council approved Sterling Equities and Related Companies' Willets Point proposal today, giving the green light to the $3 billion project that would include, most notably, a huge mall next to Citi Field. In order to get the project approved, the developers pledged $15 million to the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Alliance and $2.6 million a rooftop farm on top of the mall. In addition, the affordable housing aspect, originally expected to be delayed until 2025, will be accelerated. [NYDN; previously]
