A New York State judge put a stop to Mayor Bloomberg's Taxi of Tomorrow plan, ruling that the city exceeded its authority: "The power to contract and compel medallion owners to purchase the Nissan NV200 from Nissan for ten years does not exist in the City Charter." The programmed faced a lot of opposition, but the legal headaches are far from over. Nissan was awarded a 10-year exclusivity contract, and the company already dumped $50M into the program. They are probably pretty pissed and will no doubt try to get their money back from the city. [SAS and NYT; previously]
