Yoko Ono Wants $6.5M For Village Horse Stable-Turned-Home

New, 22 comments

Nearly 20 years ago, Yoko Ono, like any good mother, bought her son the penthouse apartment at 49 Downing Street in the West Village. He only lived in the place for a few years, but Ono hasn't tried to sell the co-op until this year. She's currently battling the board in court?she says they're trying to impede the sale?but a new listing has popped onto the market that looks like the unit she's trying to sell. Public records provide no info on the owner, but it's the only penthouse and the listing details match previous reports. The brokerbabble aptly describes the 5,700-square-foot place as a "rare," "one of a kind" property. It's located in a former horse stable, and the interior has been transformed into a modern live/work abode with original wooden beams and columns, exposed brick, and working fireplaces. There are three bedrooms, a large kitchen, lots of storage, a terrace, a greenhouse, and a rooftop deck. It's currently listed for $6.5 million, down from $8.995 million when it was de-listed in July.
