Crumbling Seaport Piers; Domino Protesters Vocal at Hearing

New, 2 comments

SEAPORT—One aspect of the Howard Hughes Corporation's massive development at Pier 17 that has yet to be explored is the condition of the platform piers on which the Tin Building and New Market Building sit. That condition, as you can see from the above pictures, could generously be described as "not good." In order to proceed, Howard Hughes will have to replace the piers at an estimated cost of $50 million. They will also restore the Tin Building, which will cost an additional $45 million. WILLIAMSBURG—As expected, protesters made themselves heard at last night's ULURP hearing for the Domino development. Multiple groups were on hand to demand more affordable housing and public space and challenge Two Trees' promise of adding jobs to the neighborhood. One of the groups brought a huge, papier-mache carrot, so points for creativity. [Gothamist; previously]
