The Community Board 7 preservation committee recently approved facade improvements to Upper West Side Beaux-Arts landmark, The Chatsworth, while rejecting rooftop upgrades and the construction of additional entrances. The plans—proposed by developer HFZ Capital—include expanding the existing penthouse by around 2,000-square-feet and reducing the number of units in the building from 137 to 81, and will go up before the full community board and, if successful, the Landmarks Preservation Commission in the coming months. The news comes after many residents voiced opposition to the plan, arguing that the area had seen far too much construction in recent years. [WSR]
